Men in bright neon jackets toiling at the side of the track is majestic, the old adage of the despicable Rudolph Hess in cast iron arch at Auschwitz “Arbeit Macht Frei” or in English “Work makes you free” has become true in the minds eye of all. What was once a cynical vicious phrase has become sincere in all but a few of those who inhabit this nation. It’s divine in its despairing reality.

When I come home
No one will greet me
At the pale peeling door
No Daughters no Sons
No wife to embrace me
as I walk through the door
The only things I’ll see
Are the broken light fixtures
And that TV on the floor

I’ll eat a solitary ready meal
Drink a lonely bottled beer
Stare at flickering images for hours
Allow the alcohol and e numbers
To drown out this loneliness,
Rotting out my insides

Fall asleep on a semen stained mattress
Feel the shit ingested inside my body
Form into ill health and suffering
As my hair turns lank and greasy
With the sweat of foreheads and palms

Lie there for ages
in uncomfortable sleep
Still fully clothed
Too idle to undress
Never comfortable alone
Trousers restricting

And everyday I’ll wake into
Will be more or less the same
Change my grime-ridden shirt
let my trousers I slept in remain
don’t even bother to wash out
the stains of sweat and shit
Ignoring the pitiful situation
Block out the pain

Why do I know this?
I do not know I just
Do. It’s the only future
I can see
Where life leaves me be
And no woman dare to touch me.

you see them decline into child
paying through their harsh decline
you watch and monitor them die
arranging the way they’d wish to float
onward to  sky.
